About Legacy Cat Club

Our Story.

Our founder, Cara Irwin, began rescuing cats in 2021 shortly after she and her husband moved into their new home and discovered several neighborhood cats living around the property. With no prior rescue experience, Cara was determined to make sure these cats were safe, cared for, and loved. She turned to Google, learned what she could do, and began with a humane trap she got secondhand.

The very first cat Cara trapped needed a full-leg amputation. She named him Marbles. Cara raised money for his surgery and recovery, and his healing became the spark that fueled her drive to help more cats.

As she continued trapping, neutering, and returning the other neighborhood cats one by one, Cara slowly met others in the rescue community who taught her, supported her, and helped her grow. One especially important mentor was Louise Wooten of K’s Kittens, whose compassion and dedication inspired Cara deeply. Louise sadly passed away in 2024, and her passing made Cara reflect on the legacy she left behind and the countless cats whose lives she changed. Cara wanted to carry that same spirit forward.

It was during this early rescue period—before Legacy Cat Club was founded—that Cara met Brittany. Brittany cared for a colony of cats of her own, and Cara stepped in to help with some of the colony members. That experience sparked Brittany’s own rescue journey, and the two quickly formed a strong bond built on shared passion and dedication to helping cats.

Cara and Brittany became a natural team—balancing each other’s strengths, supporting each other through tough rescues, and handling different sides of the work in ways that simply made sense. Brittany brought abilities, skills, and fearlessness that complemented Cara’s, and together they were able to help more cats than either could have alone.

With their combined efforts and a growing vision shaped by inspiration, loss, and community, Cara and Brittany co-founded Legacy Cat Club in August 2024. The name “Legacy” honors the cats who came before, the humans who helped them, and the lasting impact every cat leaves behind—whether feral or friendly. Each one teaches us about love, forgiveness, resilience, and the power of compassion.

Our mission:
Rescue and Lounge.

At Legacy Cat Club, our mission is to honor every cat’s unique journey by providing compassionate care, safety, and opportunity for a better future. We rescue vulnerable cats and kittens directly from the streets—those who are injured, abandoned, or in need of urgent medical attention—and place them into loving, permanent homes where they can thrive.

We are dedicated to responsible TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) for community cats who are not socialized or adoptable, helping reduce overpopulation while ensuring these cats can live safely in their outdoor homes. For cats who cannot return outdoors and are not suited for traditional adoption, we thoughtfully place them into safe and supportive barn homes as a last-resort option.

Our Cat Lounge expands this mission by providing a warm, cozy, and enriching environment where rescued cats can decompress, socialize, and feel loved. It is a space where potential adopters can truly connect with our cats—where gentle interactions, relaxation, and meaningful moments lead to lifelong matches.

Together, our rescue and lounge work hand-in-hand to create a future where every cat, feral or friendly, leaves a legacy of love, resilience, and second chances.
